For the last few years, nearly all of Kotaku’s cosplay coverage has been focused on a weekly roundup we called Fancy Pants. It was intended to serve as a collection of the best of the last week in cosplay (and cosplay photography). It was fun, but like all fun things, sooner or later it had to come to an end.
Cosplay, and our intent to cover the artform, has outgrown it.
So welcome to Cosplay. A blunt name, yes, but it does the job. This site will be serving the same grand purpose as Fancy Pants – promoting the best in cosplay – only now we’ll be doing it around the clock, not just on Sunday nights.
Here are some things you’ll probably want to know:
As you can see from the URL, this site is still a part of Kotaku. The best posts from here will be cross-posted to Kotaku’s front page, so if you never visit this sub-site but still want to catch some awesome cosplay, don’t worry. This isn’t a walled garden.I don’t want this to be just another site/blog/Tumblr posting an endless sea of anonymous cosplay images. I’m going to do my best to ensure that every image you see here is going to fully credit not just the cosplayer, but the photographer as well. And anyone else who played a significant role in an image and/or outfit (for example, props builders). This also means that I want to put more content here than just photoshoots. I’d love to hear from cosplayers, photographers, props builders, costume makers, make-up artists and anyone else involved in the scene. If you’ve got a story to tell, an outfit to share or an event to promote, let me know!
That about does it! Oh, except for one last thing: welcome!
